Our Story
Our story starts in the serene and rural Hindal Gol area, a man named Mr. Gulam Rasool lived during the year 1918. He made a modest living as a cameleer, tending to livestock. However, it was during the scorching afternoons when the sun was at its peak and people sought refuge in their huts that Mr. Gulam discovered his true passion.
With ample free time on his hands, Mr. Gulam found solace in crafting small wooden craft items. Armed only with his basic carving tools, he honed his skills through practice and experience, meticulously creating wood-carved trays and intricate pieces.
One fateful day, while on his way to attend his cousin's wedding in Jodhpur, Mr. Gulam stumbled upon a bustling "Mela" organized by a group of traders. Intrigued, he ventured into the event and discovered that there were only a few stalls dedicated to wooden items among the many showcasing local handmade products.
Luckily, Mr. Gulam had a beautifully carved wooden tray in the shape of a leaf tucked away in his bag, intended as a gift for his cousin. Curious about the value of his craftsmanship, he decided to test the waters by offering the tray for sale at the "Mela." To his astonishment, a wealthy merchant eagerly purchased it for just one rupee. Little did Mr. Gulam know that his creation would later find its way to the hands of a royal family, fetching a substantial sum.
This extraordinary moment ignited a spark within Mr. Gulam, transforming his hobby into a true passion. He dedicated himself to crafting larger items such as tables, constantly refining his skills. Unfortunately, his relentless pursuit of art took a toll on his health, and in 1965, he succumbed to a prolonged illness.
Despite this loss, Mr. Gulam's legacy lived on through his son, Mr. Yaar Mohd. Continuing the family's small business from their home in Hindal Gol, Yaar Mohd. displayed the same commitment and craftsmanship as his father. However, due to challenging circumstances in the drought-stricken village, he made the courageous decision to relocate his family to Jodhpur.
Armed with his father's knowledge and experience, Yaar Mohd. ventured into furniture making, initially catering to friends and relatives. Word of his exceptional craftsmanship soon spread, and he began receiving orders for custom furniture and wooden items from Jodhpur and the surrounding regions.
In the early 2000s, Mr. Yunus, Yaar Mohd.'s son, joined him, and together they established a small workshop. With a team of ten skilled craftsmen, they passionately worked day and night, experimenting with different designs and styles. Yunus, deeply rooted in his family's rich ancestral knowledge, became a master artist. He crafted stunning furniture adorned with intricate inlay designs, attracting customers from across India.
While Yunus dedicated himself to his work, he harbored a desire to explore wider international markets, seeking individuals who would appreciate and recognize the true value of his art. His vision was to create furniture that would be cherished for generations, understanding that furniture is a gift that can be passed down through time.
And thus, the story of this family's struggle, hard work, and unwavering dedication over a century gave birth to the brand Woodsleaf. The name itself encapsulates the essence of their craft, as it represents not just the destiny of Mr. Gulam but the very soul of wood.
Today, Woodsleaf stands as a testament to generations of knowledge and unwavering commitment, offering exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
